OGUN

Ògún

Ogun, the god of my ancestors.

The path-maker,He opens the ways for blessings and Protect our life.

Appeasing and Offering at Ogun shrine on festival day

Ogun, the brave orisha that work in the day and night .

Ogun is the orisha that is well-known  for his power of creativity.

The gods of hunters, woodcarvers, blacksmiths, barbers, mechanics, medicine men and much more.

Ogun is the Orisa who clears the way of all Obstacles and opens the way for Prosperity.

The Orisha that made path for all the orishas to come to earth when the way was blocked.

Ogun is appeased on the following day of ifa week day in 4 days Yoruba spiritual week days of orishas that we call Ose Ogun.On the same day his brother Oososi is appeased as well.In my family, we appeased and  take care of Ogun every day for He has continuously to be that unshakable strenghth  for us.Every year we have big festival to celebrate the orisha of our ancestors that he is still stronly leading us in this mordern age.

Some of Ogun’s offerings are:
Aja (dog), Agbo (ram), Akuko (cock), Ijapa (tortoise), Igbin (snail), Emu Ope (palm wine), Oti (gin), Epo pupa (red palm oil), Obi Abata (4 lobed kola), Orogbo (bitter kola nuts), Ataare (alligator pepper), Esun Isu (roasted yam),etc..

Some of Ogun’s taboos are:
Adin (palm kernel oil), Ejo (snake).

Ogun takes part in our everyday activities, that is why whoever says Ogun has done nothing for him/her will be without nothing. The automobile is his,the tools, the technology, etc.Ogun manifest in all human endeavors.

I would like to know why palm kernel oil is taboo for Ogun? I gave my Ogun about three table spoons at the advice of someone. Now I am confused.

      Aboru aboye o..
If you observe closely, most orisha do not take Adin(palm kernel oil).
Ifa shed lighfr on it in odu ogundadi, adin happened to be Orunmila wife, epo (palm oil) is Ogun’s wife. Long story short, OGUN and Orunmila fought over adin, adin was sent parking by Orunmila becauae she betrayed him, this also caused Ogun to lose his wife, epo, to Orunmila. Adin was also not welcomed by ogun as well.

Thank you so much for the timely response and knowledge. Let me just add, when I was advised to purchase the palm kernel oil and offer to OGUN; I did out of my respect for OGUN. The product that I received was not clear –as palm kernel is clear. The product was red like regular palm oil–and thin. It was not the thick palm oil that is traditionally sold. When I looked up the ingredient’s, they were described as (palm kernel oil added).

I asked ESU and OGUN to please excuse my mishap as I was offering the product out of true sincerity,

Thank you again for your response opening this blog. I am happy that my head guided me to research the product (although I should have researched it prior to its use).

It’s my pleasure that I’m able to be of help.
Adin is taboo for esu as well, it makes him angry a lot. Because you did not do this deliberately, you should not worry. Try to clean it off their pots.
May Olofin Continue to guide us all.ase

Thanks for your comment . It’s actually no competition…Any traditionalist know it.. the place of Olodumare is supreme…Orishas are our guardian angels/spiritual entities or energies…
